Adolescent Girls Empowered Through Menstrual Health Training at Kianyabinge Primary School
Adolescent girls receive sanitary pads after 2 days training at Kianyabinge primary school in Kisii County
Adolescent girls at Kianyabinge Primary School in Kisii County were recently empowered through a two-day menstrual health and life skills training aimed at promoting dignity, confidence, and school retention.
The interactive training sessions focused on:
Menstrual hygiene management
Body changes during adolescence
Self-esteem and confidence building
Breaking stigma and myths around menstruation
Facilitated by trained community health educators, the sessions created a safe space for girls to ask questions, share experiences, and gain accurate information essential for their physical and emotional well-being.
At the end of the two-day training, the girls received sanitary pads to support safe and dignified menstrual hygiene management. The distribution ensured that participants are better equipped to attend school comfortably and confidently, reducing absenteeism linked to lack of menstrual supplies.
Teachers and school administrators applauded the initiative, noting improved openness and engagement among the learners. Many of the girls expressed gratitude, sharing that the training helped them understand their bodies better and feel more confident at school.
This activity contributes to broader efforts in adolescent sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and aligns with Kisii County’s commitment to improving education outcomes, health equity, and the wellbeing of girls.
